Wade Fishing the Rappahannock River of Virginia: Smallmouth Bass and Shad

The Rappahannock River is home to some of the biggest, meanest smallmouth bass in Virginia. These cantankerous beasts cruise silently in the quiet pools and fast runs below old trench lines marking the remains of violent Civil War battles or in remote, oddly named places like Snake Castle Rock. Steve Moore shares his years of experience fishing this premier river to guide you to the best water between the fall line in Fredericksburg and Chester Gap high in the Blue Ridge. The amount of detail provided in this book is beyond anything I have ever seen. It is the most amazing description of fishing various spots of the Rappahannock River that I have ever seen. For that matter, it is the most amazing book on fishing anywhere that I have ever seen. I loved it so much, that I purchased the companion book “Wade Fishing the Rapidan River” by the same author. If you want to know where and how to fish the Rappahannock, this is the one and only book you need.

This author makes a fine accomplishment of a very large task. Trying to gather info on every major lake in a state, much less Georgia, is a difficult task to say the least. Jacobs does a fine job on specifics of each lake. He provides in depth knowledge of local’s advice, history of each lake, proven techniques, occasionally some record catches. My only small and minor complaint is the text could have been edited to read easier. For instance allow a table for each lake to give some of the specs i.e. Date formed, record largemouth, acreage, etc. This would make this reference book that much easier to read.

I bought this book before renting a lake home in Georgia almost two years ago. It was very informative and helpful in pursuit of one of our favorite hobbies. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves fishing, especially if you happen to be in Georgia and are not familiar with the area.
