“Fish porn” and “pictures of big trout” etc. are reviews of a book by an author with the last name Landon; the author of “fly fishing for striped bass” is Rich Murphy, and he is a scholar and an expert. I’ve read a variety of fishing books, fishing encyclopedias, etc., and I’ve been fishing for striped bass for the last 50 years, and this is by far the best written, best researched, and most useful book I’ve ever read on the subject. I’m a dean at a midwestern university, and I’m seriously trying to figure out if I can get this guy an honorary doctorate. It’s a great book. And it does have great pictures–but it is not just another coffee-table book. It’s a dissertation on Morone Saxatilis.

To declare this book as the all knowing guide to striped bass is a little far fetched for me. I agree the book was informative and the photography was great. But nothing was covered about fishing situations like the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, fishing ocean stripers out of boats, or night fishing around docks and bridges. I think the title of this book should have been Fly Fishing For Striped Bass Off the Beach in Massachusetts. If you live up north and fish off the beach, this will be a great book for you. If you fish for stripers by any other means, don’t expect this book to give you much information.
